DoTHE PENTAGRAM : AN ICON THAT STIRS UP TALK OF SATANIST AND WITCHCRAFT . . . .

                           Since the early " Pagan " religions , the pentagram has always
                           been seen as a symbol of man , procreation , 6 senses , and
                           many more . In my studies of many religions ( ancient and
                           current ) every iconic symbol if inverted represents SATAN .
                           This stigma was also attached to Witchcraft due to witches
                           being consorts for SATAN and using pentacles(grams) on
                           their altars to summon him . This is a misconception that
                           lead to the witch hunts. The real facts will SHOCK you ! !

                           As in Leonardo daVinci's " The Vetruvian Man " it portrays
                           mans relationship to the universe. It also can be used to
                           illustrate why the pentagram was created . The symbol was
                           first used by URUK IV in 3500BCE in ancient Mesopotamia .
                           The symbol was called " heavenly body " . Even now this
                           symbol is used all over the world daily .

                           The pentagram represents Man . His body with the arms and
                           legs extended , and his head in the point of the triangle .
                           The upper triangle is said to represent the dominance of the
                           Divine Spirit over all matter. It represents 5 senses with the
                           center portion being the 6th sense . In Witchcraft it is used
                           as a symbol of the 4 elements ( EARTH , AIR , FIRE , WATER )
                           as well as SPIRIT . It has been interpreted to symbolize the
                           union of the sexes , Man as a microcasm , Man as the ruler of
                           Nature in the miniature image and potential master of all
                           things .

                           As for a little bit on religions that have adopted the symbol
                           as an icon . There are 5 daily times of prayer and 5 pillars of
                           the Muslim faith. In the Gnostic Schools the " Blazing Star " is
                           the sign of intellectual omnipotence and autocracy . The star
                           of the Magi and the word made flesh . It adds the 1 of the
                           godhead to the 4 of matter . The Flaming Sword that banished
                           Adam from the Garden of Eden . As a talisman , it has been
                           found on Egyptian Statues and coins from Gaul . The most
                           baffling use of the pentagram gaining its Luciferian stigma
                           was propagated by the Roman Emperor Constantine I and the
                           induction of Roman Catholicism .

                           Early Christians used the pentagram as a connection to the
                           5 WOUNDS OF CHRIST that lingered until Medieval times . It's
                           form implied Truth , Religious Mysticism and the work of the
                           creator. During this time there were many Pagan religions and
                           Christianity was on the rise. The Pagans tied the symbol to
                           Mars and the number 5 . It signified severity, conflict , and
                           harmony through conflict . The Roman Emperor Constantine I
                           gathered a council at Nicaea in 325 AD and instituted laws
                           of the Roman Catholic church . It was then that the Pagans
                           and other ancient religions were abolished . . or were they?
                           It was around this turbulent event that inverted pentagrams
                           were showing up as a mocking of Constantine and his faith
                           conversion tactics. He then tied it to the Horned Goat God
                           Baphomet in the inverted pentagram . The 2 upper points
                           represent the Horns Of the Devil . Seen as the Goat of Lust
                           attacking God and the Heavens with it's Horns . In this
                           reversed state the pentagram became a symbol of evil . It
                           attracts sinister forces because it overturns the proper
                           order of things and demonstrates the triumph of matter over
                           spirit . Know here's the crazy part . . . . Constantine wore a
                           ring seal that had a pentagram and a version of a cross ! !

                           In Medieval times the knight Sir Gawain of Arthurian legends,
                           carried a shield with a gold pentacle emblazened on it . Later
                           in history the pentagram represented the 5 Knightly virtues :
                           generosity , courtesy, chivalry , piety , and chastity . It was
                           during these dark ages that a new religion called Hermeticism
                           broke away from the church. It adopted the pentagram as a
                           symbol. Due to Hermeticism dealt with occult doctrine , the
                           symbol took on an " evil " connotation.

                           In 1808 the symbol got another name. In the play Faust , the
                           character Mephistopheles , calls the pentagram a Witch's Foot.
                           It was used as a charm to ward off evil. It wasn't until the
                           early 19th Century when Eliphas Levi added to the Evil image.
                           He illustrated a picture of the microcosmic man beside the
                           inverted pentagram with the goat headed God baphomet. Since
                           witches have a ceremony for Baphomet, witches are evil.

                           In 1940 Gerald Gardner adopted the pentagram as a symbol of
                           Witchcraft or Wicca . It is used in the religion both upright
                           and in the inverted position as a symbol of the 3 levels of
                           initiation .

                           The pentagram has traditionally been linked to Witchcraft
                           and magic . The 5 pointed star in a circle is used for power
                           in magic. The Solomons Seal is used to protect witches and
                           magicians against evil . It is an extremely powerful icon that
                           is secretly tied to the number 5 as well as 3 and 9 . More on
                           that soon.

                           In the WICCAN RELIGION , the Pentagram and Pentacle are used
                           every day. It is a symbol used to invoke or banish , to bind
                           or protect , to heal and boost magic spells , and as a charm
                           for protection . How would I know you ask ? I am a practicing
                           Wiccan in the Georgian / Gardner Tradition for 8 years now.
                           We don't use it to summon the devil , or curse people it has
                           been given a bad rap for a long time. It is a symbol of the
                           Fivefold Wiccan Kiss - feet , knees , womb , breast , lips , . .

                           The 1960 's was the pentagrams worst claim to fame. The Church
                           of Satan was formed by Anton LaVey. He adapted works of
                           Francis Bacon and the Baphomet picture of Levi and created
                           his own religious symbol. To Satanists , this new pentagram
                           represented their domination of the world of Matter over
                           Spirit . The Christian Church once again denounced the
                           pentagram or any religion that used it as Evil. Once again
                           the Pagan and Wiccan religions were demonized for practicing
                           Black Magic with the inverted symbol .

                           Now here's the part that will warp your brain . The symbol has
                           ties to the numbers 5 , 3 , and 9 in its geometrical figures and
                           Numerology. Numerology is the study of numbers being reduced
                           to there lowest value eg 1980 is 1 plus 9 plus 8 plus 0 equals
                           18 but 1 plus 8 equals 9 . Now get ready to scratch your head.

                           In Numerology, Pythagoras believed that everything was a
                           number which represented order in a chaotic universe. It
                           is the idea that the numbers are clues to the True structure
                           of the universe. This is combined with the belief that the
                           very essence of every person or object is contained within
                           it's name. Pythagoreans saw opposites . Among the pairs were
                           good and evil , odd and even , and Male and Female . The odd
                           numbers were good and Male. The even numbers were evil and
                           Female.

                           The Numerology system was adapted through the Middle Ages.
                           the numbers were revamped and used to explain the mysteries
                           of the universe and the Bible. This is the list they used:
                               1 - GOD                   6 - Creation
                               2 - Devil                 7 - Rest
                               3 - Trinity               8 - Fullness and Balance
                               4 - Earth                 9 - Procreation/Cosmic Significance
                               5 - Man                  10 - Completeness

                          What does this have to do with the Pentagram ? In Wicca or
                           Witchcraft the numbers 3 , 6 , 9 , and 5 are very sacred. We
                           follow the Karmic Law of 3 . 3 is perfect and 3 squared is
                           9 or procreation and Cosmic Significance. We bind our spells
                           with the power of 3 times 3 . We celebrate moon phases of
                           Waning , Waxing and Full. We pray to the Maiden , Mother and
                           Crone ; As well as the Young Lord, Father/Horned One/Greenman,
                           and The Ancient One. There are many more .

                           The Number 5 represents Man . Man has 5 senses , fingers , toes
                           and the 5 points of the pentagram. 5 days in a work week plus
                           the weekend. 4 directions and the center and the Union of the
                           Sexes. It represents Man as the ruler of nature and Master of
                           all things.

                           The number 9 represents procreation and Cosmic Significance.
                           It is the perfect square of 3 . This is a very powerful number
                           to people seeking out knowledge about themselves and the
                           universe.

                           Here are the angles of the pentagram . This image was not
                           created as a fluke , a lot of thought and magic went into it's
                           conception . The Numerology sequence always adds up to 9.
                           It doesn't matter if you add , subtract , multiply or divide
                           the values they will always end up 9 .

                           The 5 points represent many things as well . Mars , Mercury ,
                           Moon , Sun and Jupiter. Earth, Air , Fire , Water , Spirit . It
                           also applies to musical notes , colors , Zodiac signs and the
                           list goes on.

                           Now you can see why religions adopted this powerful symbol.
                           It really made me think differently about the real meaning
                           behind it's creation . Over the ages its meaning has been
                           enriched and tarnished . It's use today in Pagan and Wiccan
                           religious ceremonies are as important as the cross is to the
                           history of Christianity.
